■Buffs/Debuffs
Buffs put characters at an advantage during battle.
Debuffs put characters at a disadvantage during battle.
Placing a buff on a character is called ""granting.""
Placing a debuff on a character is called ""inflicting.""
Having a buff granted on a character is called being ""enhanced.""
Having a debuff inflicted on a character is called being ""afflicted.""
Characters who grant buffs are called ""granters.""
Characters who inflict debuffs are called ""inflictors.""
Characters who have been granted buffs are called ""enhanced targets.""
Characters who have been inflicted with debuffs are called ""afflicted targets.""
The decision to inflict a debuff is made based on a character's chance
to inflict a debuff and the target's chance to resist a debuff.
There are specific skills that dispel buffs/debuffs, copy them onto targets, or steal them.
If the number of buffs/debuffs the target has exceeds
the number that can be dispelled, copied, or stolen,
buffs/debuffs will be selected at random
from those the target is currently enhanced or afflicted with.
■A Buff/Debuff's Effect Turn Count
If a buff or debuff specifies the number of turns
its effect will last, like in ""for X turns,""
its effects will last only until its effect turn count reaches 0.
Once a character's action phase is over,
an effect's turn count will decrease by 1.
However, if a buff or debuff is applied to a character,
such as when that character's active skill grants them a buff,
from the time that character starts their action phase
until that action phase ends,
that buff or debuff's effect will immediately be applied,
but the effect turn count for that buff or debuff will start
after the end of their action phase the following turn.
Once its effect turn count reaches 0, that buff/debuff will be dispelled.
Additionally, certain skills can be used to increase/decrease
the effect turn count of a buff/debuff.
■Effect Overlapping
Aside from a few exceptions,
buffs/debuffs that have the same type of effect can overlap with each other.
The following is an example of when effects can overlap.
If a target is already enhanced with an effect that increases their ATK,
and an ally grants that target a different effect that increases their ATK,
both ATK-increasing effects can overlap.
The following is an example of when effects cannot overlap.
If Enfeeble, Fainted, Poison, Bleed, Burn, Erosion, and Aggravation
are each inflicted more than once, the effect of each debuff will be overwritten.
When an effect is overwritten, only one of that effect will remain on the target.
It will carry over the largest values for the effect turn count and effect size.
Excluding effects that can be stacked,
if the same buff/debuff becomes overlapped on the same character,
the new buff/debuff will overwrite the old one.
■Effect Stacking
Some buffs/debuffs can be stacked if they have an effect that increases in size
each time that buff/debuff is given to a target.
The number of times the buff/debuff is given to a target
is added to the stack count, and there is a limit to how many times
the effect can be stacked.
If a stacked buff/debuff is dispelled, its stack count will become 0.
■Dispelling
A target's buff or debuff can be dispelled.
The decision to dispel a target's buff will be made
based on a character's chance to inflict a debuff
and the target's chance to resist a debuff.
The decision to dispel multiple buffs or debuffs,
unless otherwise specified in the effect's description,
will be made separately for each buff/debuff,
based on the character's chance to inflict a debuff
and the target's chance to resist a debuff,
as well as the chance (%) the dispelling will happen.
■Turn Increasing/Decreasing
This refers to the increase or decrease
of the effect turn count for a specified buff or debuff.
Decreasing an enemy's buff's effect turn count,
or increasing an enemy's debuff's effect turn count,
are both decided based on
the character's chance to inflict a debuff
and the enemy's chance to resist a debuff.
When the effect turn count of a buff or debuff reaches 0
due to a skill with an effect that decreases turn counts,
that buff or debuff will be dispelled.
■Buff Copying
This allows a character to grant themselves a buff
that a target is enhanced with.
Devotion, as well as buffs that say ""cannot be dispelled"" in their description
cannot be copied.
The value of the copied buff's effect will not be changed or updated
from the time it was copied.
■Debuff Copying
This allows a character to inflict a debuff they are afflicted with on an enemy.
The decision to afflict a copied debuff will be decided based on
a character's chance to inflict a debuff
and the target's chance to resist a debuff.
Resonance, as well as debuffs that say
""cannot be dispelled"" in their descriptions, cannot be copied.
The value of the copied debuff's effect will not be changed
or updated from the time it was copied.
As an exception, the amount of continuous damage caused via Burn or Poison,
as well as the maximum amount of continuous damage,
is calculated based on the in-battle stats of the character
the debuff is copied to.
The amount a stat is decreased by via Enfeeble
is also calculated based on the in-battle stats of the character
the debuff is copied to.
■Steal
This allows a character to dispel a target's buff and grant it to themselves.
The decision to dispel a buff and grant it to the character are both made
at the same time hance (%) written in the skill description.
In addition to the chance written in the skill description,
the decision to dispel the target's buff is made based on
the character's chance to inflict a debuff
and the target's chance to resist a debuff.
Devotion, Resonance, and buffs that say ""cannot be dispelled""
in their description cannot be stolen.
The value of the stolen buff's effect will not be changed or updated
from the time it was stolen.
As an exception, the amount of continuous damage caused via Burn or Poison,
as well as those debuffs' maximum amount of continuous damage,
and stat decreases caused via Enfeeble,
are calculated based on the in-battle stats of the character
the stolen effect is applied to.
■Buffs/Debuffs that Cannot be Dispelled
Buffs/debuffs that ""cannot be dispelled,"" as written in their descriptions,
have the following traits.
They do not count as buffs/debuffs that are ""enhancing"" or ""afflicting"" a target.
Buffs/debuffs such as ""Increased Chance to Deal a Critical Hit,""
count towards requirements that are referenced for specific actions.
Their effects cannot be subject to dispelling,
effect turn increasing/decreasing, copying, or stealing.
They are not affected by a character's chance to inflict a debuff,
a target's chance to resist a debuff, Buff Immunity, or Debuff Immunity.
With the exception of some effects, these buffs/debuffs will not be displayed
as icons during battle.
Buffs/debuffs that cannot be dispelled are included
as activation requirements for skills that activate
when buffs or debuffs are granted or inflicted via active skills.
